Develop your performing skills, stage presence, and ability to think on your feet through the ancient medium of storytelling. Learn a folk tale, practise performing it from memory, and use these skills in your own performance whether you are a storyteller, folk singer, or in any way required to entertain a crowd.

Since beginning his career in folk at 14, Ford Collier has clocked up 8 years performance experience, earned a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination for his duo The Drystones, and developed a strong influence from North Indian Classical music, particularly with recently-formed global folk trio Mishra. Ford also has a passion for the storytelling tradition, particularly of his native Somerset, and how it can be combined with his musical work.

About Folk Kitchen

Unique evenings of learning and sharing folk traditions whilst enjoying a communal meal with like-minded individuals.

Workshops are for all abilities, experienced or new to folk music. Led by experienced tutors, they will focus on various folk traditions including unaccompanied and harmony singing and storytelling. You can sign up for individual workshops via the Soundpost website or Facebook.

The wonderful team at Foodhall will provide a meal for both workshop attendees and the general public, for a chance to share your thoughts, songs or stories. This will be followed by a session led by the guest tutor, where those who attended the workshop will be able to share what that have been learning as well as everyone being able to get involved.

Last Thursday of the month.

  • 6pm Workshop (Sign-up)
  • 7pm Food (Public)
  • Session (Public)

All events are a suggested donation of £10. No one turned away due to lack of funds.
