Sam Baxter - Performing Ballads

In the British Isles there is a long tradition of telling stories through song. In this workshop we will explore various examples of ballads from around the Britain and Ireland and look at different approaches of how to tell these stories and make them your own.

Sam Baxter is a performer, interpreter and arranger of traditional song. Although originally from the High Peak in North-Derbyshire, he is currently establishing himself as a performer in the Newcastle folk scene. Having last summer won Bromyard Folk Festival’s ‘Future of Folk’ unaccompanied singing competition, his summer will be spent performing at various folk festivals around the UK.
